How Much Does It Cost To Make A Website

You will be happy to know that for most of you there will be very little cost involved. This all depends on the type of site you will be making and if you do all the work yourself or outsource it to others. If you have time to work on a site I don’t recommend outsourcing it at all, with that said those of you that work full time and lack spare time to create everything yourself outsourcing could be an option. For those of you who want to make an online shop you will need shopping cart software, there are some free ways of doing this and also some paid ways.

Domain Name

The first cost you will have is a domain name (www.yoursite.com), this can range in price depending on where you purchase it. A domain name is where people can access your site on the internet, you found my site through www.website-built4u.com. Also prices will vary depending if you buy a .com, .net, .info, .org, etc. It doesn’t matter which one you get however people tend to like .com websites. The only problem is that there are a lot more people trying to register with .com websites which means that it’s a lot harder to find an available name to register that’s not already taken.

Web host

This will be your second cost and if you’re not making an online shop and your creating the site yourself this could be your last cost involved too. A web host is where all your files for you site are stored and accessed from anyone who visits your site. Some hosting companies will charge you yearly however I prefer to pay monthly, you can pay anything from $5 a month up, depending on who you go with. I know there are free web hosting sites out there but I highly recommend ignoring them, your site will be down a lot, if you get too many visitors it will be very slow and most likely crash. It’s not that expensive to get a proper web host so just pay for one you won’t regret it (and trust me you won’t regret going with Hostgator), you would however regret getting a free web host. My favourite hosting company is Hostgator (as you would know by now), they have the best customer service I have found and are cheap and reliable, this site is hosted with Hostgator. Also all my tutorials are done with Hostgator being my Website Host.

Outsourcing

If you don’t have time or just don’t want to make your own site you can outsource it. You can outsource almost anything and having your website outsourced is sometimes the route people take. However outsourcing can sometimes cost a lot and I only recommend outsourcing if you don’t have the time to do it. Even if you are lacking time to make a site it doesn’t take too long and with the tutorials on this site you could have your own site up and running in a very short amount of time. So only outsource your website if you have to and if you can afford the cost. Generally you’re looking at hundreds to thousands of dollars to outsource the creation of your site, depending on who you hire to make it and the quality you want it.

This site is dedicated to make your website creation very easy, there are tutorials that show you how to quickly and easily install Joomla. Joomla is a Content Management System and runs your whole website for you. To learn more about Joomla go to the Joomla Tutorials Tab, also you can request me to install and setup Joomla for you and add a very nice theme, to learn more about that click the Website Creation Request link in the user menu on the right.

Development software

If you plan to make your website from scratch with coding it then you will be best off getting some web development software. I prefer to use Dreamweaver, however Dreamweaver is very costly and you can find a cheaper product, although I find Dreamweaver to be very good. You can also find some nice site building software where you can drag and drop stuff onto the page where you want it. With that being said if you know nothing about html and creating a page then there is a much easier way to make a very decent page with free programs, I will talk about that in the Creating section.

Online Store

Now there are a few ways to make an online store, you can sell your own products or you can sell someone else’s products. When building an online store make sure that you stick to one topic/niche as you will do much better that way. Offering everything you can find makes your site too widespread and people will tend to find a site that is dedicated to the topic they want. To build an online store you will need cart software for people to add stuff to, then purchase, you will also want to accept credit cards online and to do so will need to use a 3rd party merchant account or you can set up your own (is a little harder). The price of creating online stores can vary heaps, if you want to learn more about creating an online store there will be a section dedicated to Building an Online Store in the Creating Section.
