Setting Up WordPress Categories And Post Tags

Description:

Before you start adding Posts to WordPress it is a good idea to set up basic Categories and Post Tags. When you create new Posts you should assign them to a Category and a handful of Post Tags. Categories are used as kind of Post Topics and help separate your posts into more specific groups, any post not assigned to a Category are considered Uncategorized. Posts Tags are used like Keywords, this helps readers understand what the post is about and also helps readers search through your posts.

Choosing a Category Parent will make this new Category a Child/Sub Topic item. For example a Computer Blog could use “Hardware” as a main Category (no Parent) then the Category “Monitor” could have “Hardware” as its Parent, this means it is a child to Hardware and is located under “Hardware/Monitors”. Leave “Category Parent” set to None to make the new Category a main Topic.
