How To Install Joomla 1.5

The Tutorial on this page shows you how to easily install Joomla 1.5 using Fantastico, however this requires that your Website Hosting Account has Fantastico installed. If you are with Hostgator then this tutorial will work perfectly for you, if not you can still try this tutorial as your Hosting Company may have CPanel and Fantastico installed.

This tutorial will run you through the installation process for Joomla 1.5 using Fantastico through CPanel. Joomla is close to, if not, the best CMS there is and it is Open Source so it is totally free for everyone to use.   • Own Website (Web Host and Domain, Hostgator Recommended)
  • CPanel as your Control Panel

Step By Step Guide;

Step 1) Login to Fantastico through CPanel, here’s a tutorial on How To Access Fantastico Through CPanel.

Step 2) Once you are on the home page of Fantastico select “Joomla 1.5” from the left.


Step 3) You will now see the Joomla installation page, to make a new installation click the blue highlighted link that says “New Installation”.


Step 4) Now there will be three small sections of information to fill out; “Installations location”, “Admin access data” and “Base configuration”. First enter the information for the first section; for the box “Install on Domain” you should see your website there, then in the “Install in directory” box enter the directory to install Joomla too. If left blank Joomla will install to your home directory which will be if you want to install Joomla to then you would enter “JoomlaFolder” into the “Install in directory box.


Step 5) Now fill in the “Admin access data” Section. First you will need to enter “Administrator-Username”, this will be the username you use to access the admin section for your Joomla installation. Then enter the “Password”, this will be the password you use along with the username to login to the admin section of your Joomla Installation.


Step 6) The last section is “Base configuration”; here you need to enter the email account you want to associate with the admin account, details of the installation will also be sent to this email account. Then enter the full name for the Admin of this Joomla installation (you don’t have to enter your real name), this is just the name that is added to the admin profile in Joomla. Now enter your site name, for example you could enter “Your Site” instead of the last option is “Install Sample Data?” it is a good idea for beginners to leave this selected as it install sample data into this installation of Joomla, this lets you see how things work. When done click “Install Joomla 1.5”.


Additional Information:

Joomla will now be installed onto”The_Directory_Used_In_Installation”. Let’s say you left the “Directory” box blank and installed Joomla to You can access the admin section of Joomla by going to From there you can control the whole Joomla installation. For beginners I recommend going through additional tutorials for Joomla first (more tutorials can be seen on the left or found in the drop down menu at the top).
